Chairman of the Board

Ms. Barefield is a resident of Plant City and owner and president of Gans, Gans & Associates, a 23-year-old human resources consulting and executive search company. She is the immediate past Chairwoman for the Tampa Bay Workforce Alliance and board member for the Plant City Boys and Girls Club and Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, as well as being a member of the Plant City Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club and Athena Society.

Dr. Brookins is a resident of Tampa and is the past Owner/CMO and Vice President of Medical Affairs of Access Health Solutions, a minority-owned managed care network of 800 Primary Care Physicians, serving over 120,000 Medicaid patients throughout the State of Florida. He is the current President of the Bay Area Medical Association and Past President of the Florida State Medical Association. He is also the President, Founder and Chairman of the Community Health Advocacy Partnership (CHAP), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Dr. Brookins was appointed by Governor Jeb Bush to serve on the first two Pharmaceutical and Therapeutics committees for the state of Florida.

 

Mr. Cantonis is a resident of Belleair. He is the President of Acme Sponge & Chamois, Co., Inc. and currently sits on several Boards, including the Boards of Morton Plant Mease and North Bay Hospitals, as well as Morton Plant Mease Primary Care. He is past board chair of both Berkeley Preparatory School and Ruth Eckerd Hall. Mr. Cantonis was a Founding Board Member of Citizens Bank of Clearwater. He holds a MBA in Accounting from the University of Missouri and a BA in Psychology from Washington University, St. Louis.

Ms. Castor, a resident of Tampa, has a long and distinguished career as a public servant and educator, most notably as the president of the University of South Florida, Commissioner of Education for Florida and president and CEO of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  She served recently as Director of the Patel Center for Global Solutions at USF.  Ms. Castor is currently a member of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board, the Collins Center for Public Policy, the Tampa Bay Committee on Foreign Relations and the USF Library Board.

Mr. Goetschius is a resident of Tampa and is the Chairman and CEO  of Cross Border Partners Advisory Services, LLC, a professional services organization which assists private sector companies, state, provincial and national economic development organizations to accelerate the benefits derived from foreign direct investments and international trade. Mr. Goetschius holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University and has completed post graduate advance management training programs at both Wharton and Ohio State. Mr. Goetschius has served on a variety of local and national boards, including the Phoenix Houses of Florida, Academic Excellence Foundation and the Arizona State University Center for Services Leadership. He is active with the Tampa Chamber of Commerce and The Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corporation and has his own management consulting company, Help to Grow Services, LLC.

Devanand Mangar, MD, resident of Tampa, is President and CEO of Florida Gulf-to-Bay Anesthesiology Associates, Tampa Outpatient Surgical Facility, and North Tampa Outpatient Surgical Facility. Besides serving as Chief of Anesthesia for eight years, he also served as Chief of Medical Staff at Tampa General Hospital for three years. Dr. Mangar was awarded his medical degree from the State University of New York in Syracuse and completed his Anesthesiology residency at SUNY-Syracuse, New York. He serves on the board of Florida Society of Anesthesia and Hillsborough County Medical Association. Dr. Mangar is also an active member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Florida Medical Association, American Medical Association, Fellow of the America College of Chest Physicians, and Hillsborough County Medical Association. In 2006, Dr. Mangar established a 501(c)(3) called the University Foundation for Education and Research to help support access to care and improve positive outcomes to the delivery of healthcare.  He has published numerous abstracts, chapters, scientific papers and continues to further his contribution through clinical and academic research.

Mr. Marshall is a resident of Palm Harbor and retired in 2004 from his position as Senior Vice-President of Credit Card Operations for JP Morgan Chase where he had been employed since 1969.  He received his BBA degree (1977) from The City University of New York, Bernard M. Baruch College and a Masters in Business Administration degree (1989) from New York University. He is the current Chair of the Board of the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and the Council of Education Change. He serves as Vice Chair of the Straz Center for the Performing Arts and is a member of the board of the Hillsborough Education Foundation  the University Area Community Development Corporation, and the Caribbean American National Development Organization.

Mr. Merluzzi is a resident of Tampa. He is the past Headmaster of Berkeley Preparatory School. Previously he served as Head of Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He earned his Master of Arts in Mathematics from Fairfield University and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Western Connecticut State College. Mr. Merluzzi sits on the CLW Real Estate Board of Advisors. He has been actively involved in local, state and national independent school organizations in which he has held various offices.

Mr. Santa Cruz is a resident of Safety Harbor and is Chairman of Topview International, Inc., an investment and business management company, and the Chairman of Grupo Santa Cruz, a charitable foundation and holding company.  Mr. Santa Cruz has built successful ventures in the technology, healthcare, distribution, and sports management industries.  He has established a reputation for his technical innovation, marketing vision, and systematic approach to execution, and has served in various community and business boards.

Mr. Schaffel is a resident of Tampa and founded  Audio Visual Innovations, Inc. (AVI) in 1979 and continues to serve as the executive chairman of the growing enterprise that specializes in creating and selling audio video products and services to corporate, education, healthcare, military and government markets worldwide.  AVI-SPL was named the 2008 Professional Service winner and the Overall Business of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal.  Mr. Schaffel has been honored with the Life Time Achievement Award in Entrepreneurship by the University of Florida in 2009.

Mr. Stone is a resident of Palm Harbor and has held an impressive banking career that spanned 45 years. He spent 35 years in executive management including holding the position of Executive Vice President of Bank of Clearwater and USAmeriBank. He also served as President, CEO and co-founder of Citizens Bank & Trust, President and CEO of First National Bank of Florida and Liberty Bank, all located in Clearwater. Mr. Stone graduated from the Graduate School of Retail Bank Management at the University of Virginia. He is past chairman of the Board of Ruth Eckerd Hall, Mease Health Care and the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Stone has been recognized by the City of Clearwater for his outstanding community service.

Dr. Rebecca White, resident of Apollo Beach, is the James W. Walter Distinguished Chair in Entrepreneurship and Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of Tampa. She received an MBA and a Ph.D. in Strategic Management from Virginia Tech University and a BS from Concord University. Dr. White was co-founder of RiskAware, LLC  and was the founder and director of the Women’s Entrepreneurship Institute, an educational program for female entrepreneurs offered jointly with the New York Times, and the Northern Kentucky University Entrepreneurship Center. She sits on numerous Boards, including the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers Executive Council and is President of the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
